Newsletter June 2001
This is the Thrale.com newsletter for history and genealogy of the family Thrale, Thrall, Thralls, Thral, Trayle and Thrawl. Thrale.com is now the most comprehensive source of information about Thrale family history on the Internet.
Since the first newsletter in January 2001, we have added:
- information about the British Prime Minister that lived and negotiated peace with France in a Thrale owned house;
- 30 more verses by Hester Thrale;
- information about Henry and Hester Thrale, their children, all their homes;
- texts held in Henry and Hester Thrale's Streatham library, and Samuel Johnson's prayer on leaving the library and family for the last time;
- Henry Thrale's 1780 election address, details of income from his brewery during July 1779, and the location of his mourning tablet and burial vault;
- Hester Thrale's musings about 'the happiest day of her life', and the letters between her and Samuel Johnson in the first two weeks of July 1784 before the Piozzi marriage, her grand 80th birthday ball; information about her adopted son Sir John Salusbury Piozzi Salusbury;
- a page about Gabriel Piozzi;
- Herbert Lawrence's song dedicated to Hester Thrale;
- more information to our FAQs;
- a better - site search facility.
Many many thanks to everyone who has sent me emails and signed the guest book, it makes all the hard work on the website worthwhile - keep your messages coming. I will continue to keep updating Thrale.com with whatever I discover - or you send me. Things I will work on include:
- the first Thrales to live in America;
- some old Thrale wills;
- Thrales who died during the World Wars;
- an update to the 'Historic Sandridge' Thrale family tree;
- more stuff about Henry and Hester Thrale including Thrale's brewery, Hester's ancestry and more verses by Hester Thrale;
- a few more Frequently Asked questions including what is 'Thraliana';
- an advert free guest book.
I will soon be travelling to Wales, and if I get a chance I plan to take a detour so that I can visit Hester Thrale's ancestral home of Bach y graig, Tremeirchion & Bodvel. Perhaps we can keep a journal of our Thrale family trip to Wales - just like Samuel Johnson did almost 250 years ago! Watch this space for the photos, travelog and hopefully more family history information.
Thrale.com also includes information about my family, I will soon add some information and photos (the digital camera is being repaired!) of the newest addition to the Thrale line - my new born son Ethan.
I am eternally thankful to those of you who have sent me information, I promise to post it all very soon. Thanks to those who have promised to send me the Thrale information that they are working on - I look forward to receiving it. I'd love to receive some photos of any Thrale's out there for inclusion on the website. Wouldn't it be great to look out for distant and probably unknown family members. There might be some uncanny resemblances! Does anyone live near the original home town for Thrale's that travelled to the America - Windsor, Connecticut? Could you send us some photos and information about the Town and its Thrale roots?
Remember Thrale.com is a non-profit site, run in my spare time - I need all the help and Thrale information that you can offer!
Keep in touch.
