After the death of James Monger (the elder), Anchor Brewery passed to his adopted son James Monger (younger) as he had no living biological children. James (Junior) continued to run the brewery successfully, maintaining its reputation as one of the best breweries in London and becoming a member of the Worshipful Company of Brewers.

In 1665, he leased new larger premises for the brewery and it allowed for increased production. He also began to export beer, most successfully to the Netherlands and the American colonies.

Monger Jr. died childless in 1670, and the brewery was sold for £400 to brewer James Child.
