At the rear of the book is a note by his son Ralph Norman who gave she book to Sophia Plummer. who was apparently housekeeper to himself and his brother William. his will of 1852 (38) left his two sons William and Ralph Norman the tenement or public house called the King William on Nomansland, later called The Park Hotel and in 1970 renamed The Wicked Lady. They were also left land behind Butchers Close in Wheathampstead. His sons were also instructed to hand to his brother Ralph Thrale five shillings a week for the rest of his life, and paid to him personally every Saturday. His brother was his half brother already mentioned, who was also exonerated from all debts. His sons also jointly inherited No Mans Land and the holding of Mackerye End leased from Charles Garrard. His friend Thomas Robards of Bishops Hatfield is also included in the will and his daughter, Harriett, wife of James Mardall. In a codicil he left legacies to his three relations he terms nephews, Thomas, William and Norman Thrale, grandsons of his half brother Ralph. These family holdings are also mentioned in the Wheathampstead Tithe Map of 1840, and the Census returns of 1841 and 1851. When Ralph was twenty-two he had taken out an Insurance Policy. On No Mans Land farm house above the front door, there is situated the original Sun Insurance Fire Sign with the policy number 703262. The records of the Company were searched and the policy extracted, which reads:
