Received by Cash Nov. 15 1852. Wm. Paul. Copy of official receipt attached to the bill for funeral expenses of Ralph Thrale died 1852, in the possession of the above. Received 23 Novr. 1852 of Mr. Norman Thrale Executor (sic) for the late Mr. Thrale to Bill for Funeral Expences £24-2-4½ William Paul (sign.) One shilling stamp embossed on receipt. Thus the story comes to the last of the line, Harriet Thrale and her two brothers Ralph Norman and William. Harriet had married James Mardall in 1821 at St. Martins-in-the-Field, London. It is from Harriet's union with James Mardall that the Thrale-Cox family also stems. Harriet had ten children. One of the daughters married Beasney Cox of the Pound Farm and had a son Henry Thrale Cox who died at Marlborough Gate, St. Albans in 1964, having retired from farming. His daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Morris lived at Northwood, Middx, and Henry Thrale Cox left the 'Thrale corner cupboard' to his eldest grandson John Simon Thrale Cox. It is reputed, and very likely, that the cupboard belonged to Harriet's father for the initials 'R.T? are inlaid in wood. Beasney Cox had a brother Thomas, whose son Frederick Cox farmed Cunningham Hill Farm for many years and one of whose sons was killed in France in 1918.
