English census records

The United Kingdom has taken a census of its population every ten years since 1801, with the exception of 1941 (during the Second World War). The census is usually very accurate, with a fine of up to £1,000 for those who do not complete it. In 2001 the form in England and Wales was filled in by 94% of the population.
